We are beginning a campaign to lower speed limits across Davidson County because we know that slower speeds mean safer streets.

• Because 80% of Davidson County’s roads lack sidewalks, slower speed limits help ensure safety for pedestrians that are walking to a destination or walking for recreation.
• The number of people using alternate mobility options (bicycles, scooters, pedestrians and transit riders) is growing; therefore, slower speeds will create safer streets for all that use our roads.
• According to NHTSA, speed is the second highest contributing factor to injury in crashes for pedestrians, bicyclists and motor vehicles. By lowering the speed limits on residential streets, we can help to eliminate injury crashes and fatalities, a leading goal in the Metro Nashville commitment to Vision Zero.

Council Members Allen, Henderson, Pulley, Hagar, Davis, Vercher and Withers has presented a bill to lower residential speed limits from across all of Nashville.

We are grateful that the Mayor's office, Public Works, Metro Council Members and the Traffic and Parking Commission are working towards this first step to create a safer city for all Nashvillians!

In addition to the reduction of speed limits on residential streets, we would like to see:

• Speed limits on collector streets reduced to 30mph in all of Davidson County
• Speed limits on arterial roads reduced within the Urban Services District
